Welcome to the world of watercolour art!
Watercolornordic.com is the first online art exhibition platform focused on Nordic watercolour art and artists. The works present a diverse look into watercolour paintings. The site features works from history to the present day, bringing together a wide variety of artists, perspectives, techniques and skills from all corners of the region.
In addition to a historical outlook and a showcase of invited artists, the first OPEN EXHIBITION 2022 is in a central role. The appointed jury of experts has selected works through an open call for the exhibition opening on 15 June 2022. The selected artists and their works will be presented on the website for 1–2 years, along with their contact information. The site also functions as a channel to purchase works of art directly from the artists without a commission.
Our aim is to increase the awareness of watercolour painting in the Nordic countries and around the world. The exhibition ties in together with the global art network IWS (International Watercolor Society), and in this way serves to support the internationalisation of Nordic watercolour art, opening a door to this region for art lovers from across the world.
A large community of Nordic artists uses watercolours as their primary technique: there is plenty to offer. Watercolour painting is taught in public schools as well as higher education arts institutions. It is also valued as a sketching tool for architecture students, and is enjoyed by a huge group of enthusiastic hobbyists. For many visual artists, a first sketch for a new work often finds a watercolour form: just look at Edvard Munch’s more than 500 watercolour sketches on our site.

Watercolornordic.com -sivusto on ensimmäinen pohjoismaista akvarellitaidetta ja taiteilijoita esittelevä taidenäyttely internetissä. Sivusto yhdistää erilaisia näkökulmia, tekniikoita ja osaajia historiasta nykypäivään ja idästä länteen.
Historian ja kutsuttujen taiteilijoiden lisäksi avoimella näyttelyllä, OPEN EXHIBITION 2022, on tärkeä rooli, sikäli kun ehdotuksia on tarjoutunut ja valittu. Näyttely avautuu 15.6.2022. Kaikki teokset ovat nähtävissä 1–2 vuoden ajan. Sivusto tarjoaa lisäksi väylän taideteosten myynnille suoraan taiteilijalta ostajalle ilman välitysprovisiota.
Pyrimme lisäämään taiteilijain ja akvarellimaalauksen tunnettavuutta pohjoismaissa ja koko maailmassa. Näyttelyn liittäminen globaaliin taideverkostoon IWS:n kautta (International Watercolor Society; Directory), mahdollistaa osaltaan sen, että pohjoismainen akvarellitaide voi saada kansainvälistä näkyvyyttä ja on seurattavissa niin Euroopan maissa, USA:ssa, Intiassa kuin Etelä-Amerikassakin.
Pohjoismaissa on paljon taiteilijoita, joille akvarellimaalaus on yhä pääasiallinen tuotantotapa ja usein ensimmäinen taideteoksen luonnos. Akvarellimaalaus on koulujen käyttämä tekniikka, taidekorkeakoulujen maalauksen oppiaine, arkkitehtiopiskelijoiden väline ja suuren jo pitkälle ehtineen harrastajajoukon valitsema taidemuoto.

Sivusto antaa täten mahdollisuuden tutustua teoskuvien yhteydessä olevien linkkien kautta syvemmin kaikkiin esillä oleviin taiteilijoihin.
